Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
At Weathersquare, we believe your data should be private. This policy applies to both our mobile application and the web version at weathersquare.net. We built this app to show you the weather — nothing more, nothing less.
Data We Use
- Location Data: If you use the “Current Location” feature, your device’s geographical coordinates are sent directly to our weather provider to retrieve the forecast. We do not store, log, or track your location on any servers. To further protect your privacy, we truncate your coordinates to two decimal places (e.g. 48.85; 2.35). This provides an approximate precision of about 1.1 km, which is sufficient for accurate weather forecasts while ensuring your exact street address or precise location is never identified or stored.
- Saved Locations & Preferences: The cities you choose to add and your app settings (like units and appearance) are stored entirely locally on your device or in your browser. This data never leaves your device and we cannot access it.
Data We DON’T Collect (in the native app)
- No personal information (like your name, email, or phone number)
- No account creation or login required
- No behavioral tracking or crash logs
- No advertising identifiers
- No advertisements
Third-Party Services
- Weather Data: We use the Open-Meteo API to fetch forecasts. Geographic coordinates (with a 1.1 km precision; see Data We Use) are sent to their servers to retrieve the data. Open-Meteo is an open-source, non-commercial project that respects privacy. You can view their privacy policy at open-meteo.com/en/terms.
- Infrastructure & Routing: We use Cloudflare workers as a secure proxy to route your weather requests to our weather provider. When your app requests a forecast, your connection (including your IP address and the truncated location coordinates) temporarily passes through Cloudflare’s network. You can view their privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
- Subscription Management: We use RevenueCat to handle our “Pro” features. RevenueCat collects an anonymous, unique identifier to track your subscription status and ensures your “Pro” features are active across your devices. They do not collect your name, email, or financial details. You can view their privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
- Website Analytics: On our websites (including weathersquare.net), we use Google Analytics to measure aggregate visitor traffic, which may involve the use of cookies. However, the Weathersquare native iOS app contains absolutely no analytics, behavioral tracking, or cookies.
- Location & Network Services: If your device's geographical location is unavailable, we use GeoJS as a fallback to approximate your city based on your network. Additionally, we use services like BigDataCloud to translate your geographical coordinates into readable city names. Whenever your app communicates with these third-party providers (including Open-Meteo, Cloudflare, and RevenueCat), standard network information, including your IP address, is inherently transmitted to return data to your device. This data is not used for behavioral tracking or advertising.
